Local Scholarships
ATA Colleague’s Scholarship
The Holy Spirit Catholic ATA Local #5 annually offers a scholarship to dependents of members of the Local Association. A person is defined as a member of the Local Association if he/she is a certified teacher and is currently paying membership dues in the local association, or is a retired member of the Local Association. According to the scholarship guidelines, two awards of $1000.00 each will be awarded.

The scholarships will be given to students who best meet the following requirements:
1. Must be a dependent of a member of the Local Association.
2. Must have achieved a minimum grade of 65% in each of five 30-level subjects and Religious Studies thirty-five. Where Religious Studies 35 is not on the student’s transcript, the applicant must provide reasons.
3. Must be in his/her first year of studies at a post-secondary institution.
4. Must apply in writing indicating the following:
a. the program of studies and the institution.
b. school and community involvement.
c. parish involvement
(The applicant should provide an indication of the number of hours he/she spent participating in each activity outlined in parts 4b and 4c. This helps the scholarship committee determine the level of school, community, and parish involvement more accurately.)
5. Must supply two letters of reference, one being from a former high school teacher.
6. The application deadline is October 31st of the scholarship year. The letter must be received or at least postmarked by this date.
7. The student must supply an official Alberta Learning transcript of marks from his/her high school.
The scholarship(s) will be awarded based on the following criteria:

Academic achievement 60%

School involvement 20%
-
Community involvement 10%
-
Parish involvement 10%

Faculty of Education Student Scholarship
The Holy Spirit Catholic ATA Local #5 annually offers a scholarship to graduates of a high school in the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division who are attending as a full-time, first year Faculty of education student at the University of Lethbridge. According to the scholarship guidelines, two awards of $1000.00 each will be awarded.
Policy
1.0 The scholarships will be given to students who best meet the following requirements:
1.1 A written letter of application;
1.2 An official transcript of academic standing in the previous three years of University;
1.3 A letter of reference from the priest or minister of the student’s parish or church;
1.4 A letter of reference from the Education 2500 faculty advisor identifying those qualities of the applicant which will make the applicant a successful teacher.
2.0 All applications and documents are to be submitted by January 31st of the scholarship year.
